YMCA of Avery County

In May 2007, the "All New YMCA in Avery County" community capital campaign received a $1.5 million challenge gift from the Wayne Densch Foundation and Leonard and Marjorie Williams to be used toward the construction of the YMCA's Aquatic Center and the development of the YMCA in Avery County. "We are delighted with this major jumpstart to the campaign," said Phyllis Crain, Chairman fo the Board of Directors.

A project begun with a $5 - 6 million goal in 2005 to develop a YMCA in the mountains around LInville, North Carolina, the Avery County YMCA increased its goal to a $7.5 million capital campaign under the leadership of Campaign Chair, John Blackburn of Linville Resorts, and the campaign has since exceeded the $5 million mark.
