Ann Thomas

Martin Baker

Martin Baker has been in the executive search profession for ten years. He is a Vice President for Baker and Associates based in the Winston-Salem, NC office, having transitioned his practice from Baker-Parker, Inc. in 2007. Also in 2007 Martin became the lead search consultant for Capital Development Services.

Previously, Martin executed research and search strategy for numerous senior level searches at the Atlanta office of Korn/Ferry International. He began his career working as a Research Associate with Saxton, Bampfylde, Hever, PLC, an executive search and management assessment firm in London, England.

Martin has actively managed searches in the academic, not-for-profit, and industrial sectors, including the positions of CEO, CFO, CIO, Provost, Dean and Director. He has worked on some 200 searches, half of which have been for higher education clients. Martin has represented some of our countries most distinguished colleges and universities, conducting numerous mid and senior level searches spanning most academic and functional disciplines.

A native of Atlanta, Martin earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University, and lives in Winston-Salem with his wife and two children.

Pam has over 25 years’ experience as a senior-level administrator and consultant in higher education administration, development/fundraising, planning, board and project management, leadership and communication. An organizational change agent, Pam has helped numerous non-profit organizations reorganize and gain focus. Invaluable to Capital Development Services’ clients is her in-depth knowledge of non-profit management from the inside. An analytical problem-solver, she has worked extensively with community colleges, chambers of commerce, museums, community foundations, churches, health and human services groups and school/business partnerships.

Pam holds a degree in Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Masters in Adult Education from East Carolina University. She and her husband Barney, an attorney/mediator/arbitrator, live in Graham.

Kaky joined Capital Development Services’ team in 2004 as the Director of Client Services where she assisted clients with the various tools and services to help them achieve their campaign goals. She now serves clients in a Senior Counsel role. Kaky has worked with many dozens of nonprofits in planning and implementing capital campaigns, feasibility studies, development operations assessments, executive search services, and prospect research.

Before joining Capital Development Services, Kaky worked in Washington, DC at the Smithsonian National Zoo raising major gifts for a $35 million capital campaign, along with managing the highest membership circle at the Zoo. Kaky also worked at The Field School in Washington, DC, helping to guide the school's Annual Fund, the Alumni Relations Program, and a $10 million capital campaign.

Kaky is a Chattanooga, TN native and a graduate of Davidson College. She lives with her husband and son in Greensboro, NC.

With nearly 30 years of comprehensive institutional advancement experience, Kevin has guided many successful annual, capital, and endowment campaigns.  Kevin's experience in major gift solicitations, estate and gift planning, foundation management, program assessment, strategic planning, and government funding is particularly valuable to Capital Development Services' clients.  Kevin has provided fundraising counsel services to higher and secondary education, health and human services, arts and humanities, and faith-based organizations.

Kevin resides in Wilmington, North Carolina, with his wife Janet.

William Peck has over 23 years of fundraising and non-profit management experience as an executive, consultant and mentor in the areas of fundraising, management, strategic planning and facilitation, community affairs, and training. 

Bill has worked for numerous nonprofits in fundraising and management, including human service and health care agencies.  In addition, he served in senior management role for United Ways in Michigan, Colorado, and North Carolina.

Since 2002, Bill has been working throughout the Southeastern United States with Capital Development Services as Senior Counsel providing an array of organizational management services and fundraising counsel for annual and capital campaigns.  His clients have included children’s homes, hospital foundations, humane societies, environmental organizations, State Associations, educational organizations, arts groups and many others. 

Bill Peck holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University concentrating in Policy, Planning, and Administration and a Bachelor’s degree from Albion College, Michigan.  He is a member of the Triangle AFP chapter and licensed as a fundraising professional.  Bill lives in Durham, North Carolina.  His hobbies include a variety of sports, reading, music (appreciation and performance), and gardening.

With over 35 years of nonprofit development and leadership experience, Sam Stone brings a depth of experience in arts, education, religious and healthcare organizations to his work at Capital Development Services. Having served as Director of Development at the NC School of the Arts, NC Museum of Art, and Glenaire, as well as the Executive Director of Glenaire, a Presbyterian Homes retirement community, Sam Stone holds a D. Min. from Union Theological Seminary and a BA and M.Div. from Duke University, and is an Ordained Presbyterian Minister. Through his professional and volunteer work in the nonprofit arena, Sam Stone has significant experience in campaign planning, board development, donor cultivation, leadership recruitment, case and grant writing, planned giving, and nonprofit management, and has earned a reputation as a reliable community leader.

Sam lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has two daughters and three granddaughters. In his free time he enjoys reading, travelling and bike riding.

Ann has guided the development efforts of Southeastern health and human services and environmental organizations throughout her more than 20 years in the field of fundraising.  Ann has recently managed a number of successful campaigns for Capital Development Services, including food banks, museums, foundations, private schools, and environmental organizations.  Ann's ability to guide and direct campaign leadership and devise appropriate solicitation strategies for major gift prospects are great assets to her clients.

Ann is a mother of two and a native of Greensboro, North Carolina.  She is a graduate of UNC Chapel-Hill, and an active member of the Episcopal church.  She and her family reside in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
